10 Things I Wish I Knew In High School : Advice for Surviving School

High school advice remains relevant to me at 27, as it was when I was 17. When I was nervous about something my mom always told me to ask the question,”Will this matter in 10 years from now?” Well, it’s been over 10 years since I was a freshman in high school and I have to admit, she was right. I can’t seem to remember most of the things that bothered me back then and when I take the time to look back I realize now that I made things out to be much worse than they are.

Here is a quick video that explains Top 10 Things I wish I knew in high school:

If you’re reading this and you are in high school, or of any age, I hope the 10 things I wish I knew help you to realize that everything does eventually work itself out.

When you watch the video, one of the most profound experiences for me was in dating. I never had a boyfriend for all of my four years of high school. I would often cry because I thought no one liked me. I came up with every reason why I wasn’t good enough. It turns a few years later that multiple guys came up to me telling me that they had a crush on me but they were to intimidated to talk to me! This just shows that we tend to make things out to be negative when we shouldn’t. If things are not how you would expect them to be in high school, or life for the matter, such as dating was for me, it does not mean that anything is wrong with you! The only thing wrong is how hard you are being on yourself.

High school should be a wonderful time in your life. Each day as we get older, we look back and we miss where we are now. So instead of worring about things, realise how lucky you are to have today. Appreciate each moment.
