Find Opportunity In Any Situation

This video will definitely get you inspired and teach you how to find opportunity in any situation.

You can take a negative situation and instead of panicking, use it to your advantage.  With a little bit of thought you can turn a negative situation into a positive one–It’s called reframing a situation.

  • glass half full or half empty?
  • baby swan or ugly duckling?
  • winter wonderland or snowstorm ?

These are things that you need to think about. A situation can be an opportunity in disguise and we must learn how to look past the surface and find the opportunity that lies within.  There is ALWAYS something to be gained from any experience, whether positive or negative, you have learned something.

Tonya Reidman author of the book The Yes Factor describes two  ways to reframe a situation:

1Context reframing– changing the context of a situation to make it a more positive one.

  • Negative Frame: I hate public speaking, no one listens to what I am saying anyway.
  • Reframed: Public speaking is fun, it’s like a game to figure out a way to get people interested in what I am saying.

2.Content Reframing—finding alternative meanings for a situation.

  • Negative Frame: I am so busy, I work 10 hours a day and go to school and am expected to have time for homework.
  • Reframed: I am so busy, but it makes me realize that I am needed. I work harder than the average person.

You can see that reframing the situation from negative to positive will easily boost your mood. You are finding the opportunities in obstacles. But you are not thinking of them as obstacles anymore you are thinking of it as an obstacle course maybe where you win a prize at the end. You are changing what was once thought as hard to something better. That is how you find the opportunity in any situation.

“Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out” – Anonymous

It’s as simple as that. Don’t make it harder on yourself.  Remember opportunity is always there so go out there and find the hidden opportunities that surround you!

We just had the one of the worst snowstorms in our area and I was just thinking how awful the snow and weather is here, but after reframing the situation it truly is a winter wonderland outside, and all that snow outside has put a smile on my face! Thanks for sharing this method of finding alternative meanings to situations!! I will apply this to my everyday life!! I love it!!

Reframing is a beautiful thing. I use this method all the time now after reading a book of mine called the “Ethical Toolbox.” There are a lot of people that could benefit from learning how to change the way they think and using reframing to do so.

Planting positive seeds in the mind is the first and most important step so learning how to reframe is beneficial in many ways for sure. I don’t think we are alone in saying that most people would be glad to learn of a new way to improve their mood on a daily basis.
