Former ‘Bachelor’ Casting Producer Jazzy Collins on Why She Left The Show, Diversity & Not Being Afraid to Speak up

On today’s Dose Of Bliss I am joined by Former ‘Bachelor’ Casting Producer Jazzy Collins. We talk why she left The Bachelor, diversity and having the confidence to speak up for what you believe in.

Being hired as a casting producer for The Bachelor was a dream opportunity for Jazzy. She was brought on as one of the only black casting producers to add more diversity to the franchise starting with the show’s first black Bachelorette, Rachel Lindsay.

Imagine, getting your dream job and having the chance to actually make a difference in the world! However, those dreams were short lived. After casting for Rachel’s season, the format of the The Bachelorette went back to little to no diversity.

So Jazzy did what any good casting producer would do, she spoke up and told the team she thought the show should have more diversity. However, she was met with micro-aggressions from her fellow employees. They began to turn against her and call her aggressive. This lead her to question, if she had a voice and spoke up would she get fired? Or even worse.. black listed from Hollywood?

Like many of us, wanting to make a name for herself, Jazzy felt stuck working in an uncomfortable environment. She knew her job was not in alignment with her beliefs.

She soon found the courage to leave The Bachelor & go freelance! Taking that leap led her to amazing jobs working for OWN and now Netflix ‘The Circle!’

So when ABC’s The Bachelor recently announced Matt James will the first black Bachelor in 25 seasons and second black lead in 40 seasons, Jazzy finally had the confidence to speak up on her experience.

She wrote an open letter on social media to the world and to ABC. Her story has since gone viral.

Jazzy shows us that when we have the confidence to speak up our true purpose is revealed. The very job that held her back from changing the world ended up becoming a catalyst that helped her do it.

Sometimes we don’t know why hard things are happening to us at the time but ultimately they make us stronger and better people. Jazzy is a true example that success is on the other side of discomfort.

Never be afraid to let go of something that doesn’t serve you and never be afraid to speak up.
